Conceived in Liberty: A novel of the Irish Brigade in the Civil War

This is the story of life, death and the times during the Civil War. Follow James O’Toole an 18-year-old who, along with his two cousins, enlist in the Irish Brigade in 1862. The trio comes face to face with the brutalities of war and the realities of slavery. At home James’s mother, Maggie, has to fend for herself as her husband, John, has gone west to find work on the railroad. Follow the adventures as James’s moves south with the Army of the Potomac, Maggie faces new trials and confronts her prejudice when she becomes intertwined with the underground railroad as her husband John lives through the struggles of life on the Iowa plains and the adventure of returning east to try and find his son.
