The famous book The Deerslayer by James Fenimore Cooper. Originally published in 1841, The Deerslayer is part of the Leatherstocking Tales. As far as publication dates go, The Deerslayer is the 5th and final book in the Leatherstocking Tales, but in terms of the chronology of the story, it is the first book in the Leatherstocking Tales.
