This is a story about a journey through the city, his city, New York City, to find out who he is, who he can be. A reclusive author of four novels, he is hard at work on his fifth, which is essentially a journal. It is a solitary life he leads, though he lives in the middle of a bustling city that never sleeps. Wide awake late at night, he hears creaking floorboards, creeping footsteps, and rattling windows inside his apartment, which is haunted by its previous tenant. Ghosts from within, ghosts from without, they are coming at him from all directions. As Sawyer attempts to distinguish who is real and who is a figment of his overactive imagination, he invites you into his world for a week-long glimpse.
A premonition leads him to the exclusive co-op building at 820 Fifth Avenue. After interviewing with The Board, he awaits their decision after having charmed the Queen Bee, otherwise known as the wealthy 88-year-old gatekeeper that decides who will reside at the exclusive building. The premonition revolves around not only an address, but also a woman by the name of Jasmine, who he met at The Plaza Hotel’s Oak Room. Although it is his hope that she is real, Sawyer wonders if she is just another phantom in a haunted world. A week is spent following her mysterious leads before he finally begins to see the world in a new light and is yanked out of the shadows of his past.
During this week of self-discovery, he wanders into a used bookstore and purchases A Timeless Journey, a one-off special edition book that sets forth a few incredible urban legends about New York City. In order to verify these mysteries, Sawyer follows clues that lead to several new adventures, which are then incorporated into his latest novel. Venturing through the city, he visits its finest museums and restaurants while on a quest to burst out of his shell and give back to society after so much has been given to him.
Although there have been many disconnections in his life, Sawyer is finally discovering connections in the form of true friendship and true love. A trip to Miami is planned to make the ultimate connection. For one spectacular day, he succeeds brilliantly...and then it all comes to an end.
