Procedures for Ensuring the Accessibility of Electronic and Information Technology (E&IT) Procuredby DoD Organizations

PURPOSE 1. PURPOSE. This Manual:
a. Implements the policy in DoD Directive (DoDD) 8000.01 (Reference (a)) in accordance
with the authority in DoDD 5144.1 (Reference (b)), assigns responsibilities, and provides
procedures for the implementation of Section 508of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as codified
in section 794d of title 29, United States Code (Reference (c)), hereafter referred to as “Section
508.”
b. Provides a listing of websites containing laws, regulations, standards, and guidelines for
ensuring that E&IT is developed, procured, maintained, and used by the Department of Defense
to allow persons with disabilities access to information comparable to that afforded persons
without disabilities.
