"The Chicago Bus Stop Diaries" is the newest book of poetry by Pulitzer Nominated Poet, Luke Austin Daugherty.
This is the short history of eighteen people, at one Chicago bus stop, on one morning in the spring of 2011.
The eighteen main characters were pulled off of the sidewalk of South Canal Street between Jackson and Van Buren one morning and written down in prose by the author. They are found in "The Chicago Bus Stop Diaries" in the same order as they appeared in real life.
This work is an admonition to all who read to look deeper into the moments of each day to find their treasure and tragedy. Let every person be a surgeon, pulling back the flesh of each day to reveal its inward parts.
The poems are titled:
1. The Man Carries His Crutches
2. A Considerate Man
3. Party Girls
4. The Man with the Paper Jacket
5. An Inconsiderate Man
6. Defender of Israel
7. Hopeful Girl
8. A Man Who Does Not Fit
9. Man with the Large Puffy Pillow
10. The Man Who Thinks Thirty-Four is the New Twenty-Five
11. Man in Tight Suit Pants
12. She Tussles Her Hair to His Delight
13. Man with His Tongue Out
14. The Politely Inquisitive Man
15. The Cougar Travels Light, Her Prey Travels Heavy
16. Her Hands Look Older than She Is
17. The Two Girls with Different Leopard Skin
