"The Boy Who Holds the Key addresses autism. It is not Ms. McGee's intentions to define autism, but to equate it with things the reader can relate to in order to gain some insight. When the author's oldest son was diagnosed with autism, little was known about the illness. When questioned about her son's behavior, she would start out with, "It's like… " The goal of this whimsical story is to engender compassion for the victims of this illness and support of the families who struggle with an illness that still presents more questions than answers."
