Imagine two men alone traveling in the north. Suddenly, they notice that
their dog team is shrinking, presumably being lured away one dog at
a time, by a female wolf dog and eaten by her and her pack.
The two men try to fight off the ravenous wolves and are down to where
they only have 3 bullets left between them. One of the men, in trying to
save another of their dogs is unfortunately killed himself, leaving his
friend to forge on alone.
Suspense builds as Henry, the surviving man is left with only two dogs
so he builds a huge fire to try to keep from facing the same fate as his
friend.
White Fang is often assigned by high school teachers for reading and
book reports, because of the fast moving, action packed tale that involves a wolf dog students won't a wolf-dog involved in so many adventures that she will not be easily
forgotten, even by the most reluctant readers.
A special section at the end of the book includes questions that
will be helpful for students to consider if they are required to report on the
book after reading it.
