This story, loosely based on actual events, is set back in the early 1900's and tells of a thriving Cannonsburg, PA farming community and the struggles and loves between the men and women who live on the farms on the outskirts of town. The women in this book are young, in fact are made to grow up as they become women by marriage. The community is rocked by a series of murders that causes every female child to be married early, by the age of eleven. The story is full of scandal, love, hate, and abuse as remembered and told by Daisy Carter, who tells the story when she is 103 years old. The center of The Cannonsburg Murders is the women who meet at a nearby pond that becomes their sanctuary away from their men as they roll their tobacco cigarettes and stuff smoking pipes with tobacco for their men. The women develop strong relationships and trust as they share the details of their lives with each other. How will this group of women respond when one of them reveals the abuse at the hands of her husband?
