When the 30th U.S. Colored Troops were organized at Camp Stanton from February 12th to March 18, 1864, among them was a 19-year-old lieutenant, George Walcott.
In March of 1864, he was put in command of Company H, 39th U. S. C. T. In his short service, he saw battle and was described as a much-beloved figure.
He clearly put great stock in his faith. By July of 1864, he had, like so many of his comrades in arms, died of disease. This collection of memorials to Walcott include excerpts from letters and diaries during his time with the Army.
For the first time, this long-out-of-print book is available as an affordable, well-formatted book for e-readers and smartphones.
