The work is the story of my life and the many personal and social mores that shaped it. My goal was to relate only events in which I participated or witnessed firsthand and for the most part I think I met the objective.
The narrative details my early innocent years, my fall from grace and the gang that I ran with who eventually were involved in the Irish gang war of the sixties. It pictures life in the South Boston of the 1950’s and 1960’s with all of its values and foibles. It speaks of the many friends who were killed because of their gangster life style or in Viet Nam.
I write of my break from the corner and of twenty years in the corporate world followed by a “mid-life” crisis, a return to South Boston and my purchase of a retail liquor store from “Whitey”Bulger. These years were the worst of my life with many legal problems along with great scrutiny from law enforcement, a divorce, bankruptcy, situations when I feared for my life, self medication with alcohol and many Grand Jury appearances.
The final three chapters relate my commitment to Christ and the difference He has made in my life.
