We are pleased to present the first available Nook version of this nearly-lost and difficult to acquire series! This story, brought to you in the complete trilogy and possibly inspired by Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, covers a one-year period in the life of two brothers who each follow their destiny.
Laced with irony, this story begins in England, when a father decides who each of his sons will marry. When one son, Edric, decides he would rather forfeit his inheritance to his war-hero brother, Edmund, than marry his father's choice for him, he heads to Egypt to reanimate the corpse of Cheops, hoping to gain knowledge from beyond the grave.
Through many adventures, Edric finds family and friends in the most unlikely places, while his brother Edmund tries to maintain government at home.
Cheops, meanwhile, becomes a master manipulator of the elite and powerful, and the hub of a sinister plot to bring the evil "upper-crust" to their knees, allowing the meek to inherit the earth.
The steampunk themes in this futuristic book cannot be overlooked as the gadgets and inventions throughout bring transportation, flight, lights, an airborne mailing system, and even wind-up mechanical public servants to a generation of people dreamed up nearly 200 years ago in Jane C. Loudon's head.
The reader can also enjoy a surprise ending with multiple unexpected twists featuring the moral of the story:
Be happy, for happiness is in your power;
Be wise, for wisdom may be obtained by reflection;
Be merciful, for unless we give, how can we expect mercy?
Rely not on your own strength;
Seek not to pry into mysteries designed to be concealed from man;
Enjoy the comforts within your reach — know, that knowledge, above the sphere of man’s capacity, produces only wretchedness; and to be contented with our station, and to make ourselves useful to our fellow-creatures, is the only true path to happiness.
-Complete Trilogy Included! (All Three Volumes!)
-Annotated to Include a Commentary on how The Mummy has evolved through the history of Hollywood and how it has affected the horror genre.
