The reader will consider this to be a historical mystery that intertwines the story line with historical fact and the actions of the characters.

The Cotton Club is an old underground organization that was formed during the American Civil War by the many large cotton and sugar cane plantation owners in the Deep South. The owners of these plantations knew that if the North won the war, and slavery was abolished, they would no longer be able to grow their huge cotton crops without slave labor. Their privileged lifestyles would be end.

However, shortly after the war, the invention of the internal combustion engine and the automobile created a huge demand for oil (the new big money maker). The same families became wealthy again due to the massive oil reserves beneath their thousands of acres of farm land. The Cotton Club became even more powerful and used its wealth and influences to protect their Libertarian agendas. (they are against governmental control of the people) We view this mystery through the eyes of Jason Kemp, a brilliant and world known history professor that teaches at a prestigious university in Texas. Jason experiences a major life experience and is recruited as an operative for the Cotton Club. He is assigned three different assignments. Most importantly, he meets people that change his life.
