KILL MIKEY is based on a true story. Francisco 'Cisco' Vasquez was a 15-year-old member of a wannabe gang run by a charismatic and manipulative leader who craved the small but lucrative drug trade established by independent dealer Miguel 'Mikey' Osaguerro. Lives suddenly changed forever when Cisco's gang boss handed him the old .38 cal revolver and ordered, "Cisco, kill Mikey."
The novel focuses on Cisco as he deals with his sentence of 15 years imprisonment. He sums up his initial view in two sentences. -- "The main punishment to which I have been sentenced is to be bored within an inch of my life. My second punishment is to be totally deprived of sexual contact with anyone of the opposite sex for 15 years." Life, however, often has ways of working out quite differently than one expects.
