Hidden in the Walls

Detective Sam Sutton thought the caller simply a frightened woman who needed to be told that she was all right, and then referred to someone who could help her, but when Nettie Carpenter peered at him through the cracked open front door of the home she was remodeling, he thought she was the cutest little redhead he'd ever met. She had been tearing down a wall in her home when she found a bag of money, and she was afraid to be alone. Sam couldn't believe the amount of money in the bag, or that for all intents and purposes, the money was hers.

Nettie begged Sam to stay with her until she could take the money and deposit it in the bank, and was pleased when he agreed. She felt safe with him there, and he was just the type of man she'd always longed for but didn't believe she would ever find! Sam promised he would keep her safe, and when a man broke into the house, claiming that everything left in the house by his uncle belonged to him, Sam confiscated the key he had, and tossed him out.?

Nettie offered to cook for him, as a sign of appreciation, and a friendship ensued. But could there be more than just friendship? Nettie had a lot of buried fears from an abusive childhood. Could Sam be the one to coax her out a life of fear and learn to trust again? Perhaps, even to love?
