CONTENTS
Ellitoe's Egg
A space ship is hired to transport a Boofon prince, his wife and the various underlings required by this royal family to a SektaLock Council on the far side of the galaxy. The captain/owner is suspicious when all is paid in advance, but his contacts cannot detect any problem with the Prince or his travel plan. There is no known political problem and with the acceptance of the outrageous fee proposed, the Captain must follow through. What the Captain does not know is that the princess is pregnant, and pregnant Boofons ladies can pose a danger to all around. However, she is large; she is so large that she takes up the greater part of the large ship's bay area, so her pregnancy is not discovered until the ship is far out in space, half-way between here and there, and then, only because she becomes upset due to hormonal reactions to the combined tension of space travel and pregnancy. If she becomes too upset, she will destroy the entire ship and everyone on it.
There is a great deal more than meets the eye going on in this journey and you can discover it all in a few moments of reading pleasure. Meet the pompous prince and his lovely, but large princess, the Captain who knows some things really are too good to be true, and the various crew members, as well as slaves brought by the Boofon contingency for "entertainment." The combination is explosive.
Lucent Four
Robots of the future will take on all aspects of the human form, including flesh and bone, and Lucent Four is the latest and most advanced model of Medical Assistance robots. Lucy, as she is called, is the most human of robots devised to date, including her delivery as a baby and her maturation process to be able to activate her special talent. She can, in a classroom or other environment, make the greater portion of her body translucent and highlight a body system, such as the nervous system, or the blood system for visuals. She is just learning her capabilities and some systems are easier than others. She never knew her mother or father; she was raised by a series of "Tenders." A new tender has recently arrived and Lucy feels somewhat challenged. Her "exams" are coming up and is questioning why the new Tender has arrived. What is more important, her future or her friendship?
Josephus Josephinian Joseph
Some folks need conformity and operate much better in an atmosphere where everything is defined. It can get away from you. Imagine a world where everyone has the same name, with a male and female derivation; everyone on the entire world has the same last name; and everyone conforms to the same set of rules for behavior. Now, what would happen in such a world if the young, being young decide not to conform – not in a major way, but simply search for some individualism in this world, such as a different name? Would it be accepted? Would the adults understand? Can even such a small change ruin a perfectly operating group who are now confronted with someone who wants to be just a little bit different? See this scenario develop through the eyes of a human business consultant who lives with the "Josephs" and understands their civilization, as well as his own world's history. A recommendation to meet in the middle from the human has some humorous and serious consequences.
Bliffel and the Amorpho Beam
Bliffel, a simple man becomes simpler when he purposely steps in front of the Amorpho Beam and obviously becomes amorphous, which would distress a more complex person. He makes the best of it, along with those around him, and everyone adapts. When Bliffel falls in love, and Mary does too, the result is a very interesting combination of characteristics. romance in a different style in a very high-tech environment and like any good love story, it works out well. Aren't happy endings wonderful?
