Marla awoke the next morning to a sweet soreness between her legs. The events of the night before played slowly through the ribbon of her mind. She recalled every moist kiss, every flick of his tongue, every plunge of his dominating manhood into her soaking wet center.

Caleb's lovemaking. Sweet Jesus he had put it on her!

All her life, she'd made bad decisions when it came to men. After divorcing her husband, who'd cheated throughout their almost twenty-five year marriage, she was not about to make another mistake with another man, especially not at the ripe old age of 44.

You're supposed to know better at a certain age, she admonished herself. How embarrassing would it be to make a mistake even a 25-year-old wouldn't make with someone like Caleb?

"Ouch," she said, not realizing how hard she was rubbing the loofah sponge over her body. The more she talked to herself about staying away from Caleb, the harder she was unknowingly scrubbing her body with the roughened bath aid.

After a thorough scrubbing -- of body and mind -- Marla emerged from the shower refreshed and determined to put thoughts of one Caleb Rawlings firmly from her mind.

"Just because it feels good does not mean it's good for you," she reminded herself, especially when it comes to men.
. . .

"Caleb look, I thought I made myself clear last night. There's nothing else to say. So what are you doing here?"

"You may have had your say last night, but I didn't. You rushed out without giving me a chance to explain."

"That's because there is nothing to explain," Marla said quickly. "Really Caleb, you don't owe me an explanation about anything. I told you, what has transpired between us will remain our little secret."

"What if I don’t want it to remain our little secret?" he said, using air-quotes to make his point. "… Look Marla, there's more to what happened between us than sex," he said, his storm-blue eyes resting on her jiggling breasts beneath her robe.

Trying to ignore his fixated gaze, Marla protested, "Well I want what's happened between us to remain a secret. There's nowhere for us to go after … after … well, you know."

Moving to stand directly in front of her, Caleb put a hand on each one of her shoulders. She could feel the warmth of his palms through the silk of her short robe. Caleb dipped his head and took a deep breath in the nook between her shoulder and neck.

"You smell so good," he said, breathing in deeply again to inhale the scent of her. His breath fanned out on her skin, sending spindles of pleasure racing to every corner of her body.

"Don't tell me there's nothing between us when your body betrays you like it's doing right now," he said softly into her ear. "I've barely touched you and I’m about to explode right now … and you are too," he finished, his finger running over the throbbing vein on the side of her neck.

Damn him!

Marla stepped out of the circle of passion he'd created around them. He was right, she was throbbing with need -- from the core of her womanhood to the root tips of every strand of hair on her head. Swallowing to create moisture in her dry windpipes, she began, "Just … just because we're sexually compatible, it doesn't mean …"

"It doesn't mean what, Marla?" Caleb interjected. "That because the way we met precludes us from having anything more than a sexual relationship?"

* * *
Was he right? Could there be a future for them in spite of their ill-fated first meeting, or would she be making a mistake with another man all over again?
