The prince had long ago learned the truth concerning the throwing trees, that they were actually creatures of intelligence, able to talk to one another, and hated the intrusion of travellers on the mountain path. Ryen also knew that these Trees had at one time declared their allegiance to the ancient kings of the Realm. However, Ryen wondered to himself, “Will the Mountain Trees still recognize their allegiance today? Will they acknowledge the authority of a Prince of the Bright Realm?”
