Kara and her young daughter are staying at her parents cottage in Scotland, after her husband tragically dies in an accident. When Kara's mother unearths a strange box, Kara' life takes a sudden turn towards the supernatural. She soon finds herself in a strange new place, betrothed to an otherworldly Scottish laird. As Kara makes her way through this new land trying to find a way home, she uncovers secrets about her family, and their less than ordinary origins.
