A crime, actually several crimes - 'sins' if you will - erupt in Tyson County upon Tulee's death. Both meth and murder engulf her family as they work to make sense of the evil around them.
They're strong folk and, after some tough times, emerge probably stronger than before.
The villains of the tale? They probably should have left well enough alone.
The conflict is presented through the story of an old woman's death and the manner in which her passing affects two very different groups. On the one hand are the family members who, for the most part (there's a single glaring exception), conduct themselves very well and ~ on the other ~ the compatriots of the man who went up to her house yesterday fully intending to kill her off. They don't do well at all.
Traditional Southern values in Tyson County are assailed by meth, by murder, and by a wide variety of crime in these pages. Good and Evil lock horns in the crime ficition, mystery fiction and family fiction work that is 'Tulee Main.'
The bottom line can be either "whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap" or "what goes around comes around" depending on your outlook. Given the makeup of the Tyson County folks living here in the middle of the Bible Belt, the first is their obvious choice.
It's a quiet setting, a gentle setting, one that's rocked by greed, fear, murder ~ and still manages to be itself once the storm passes by.
