Life has gotten more than a little complicated for Isabelle Dennehy. She inherited the family mercantile after her parents died, but substantial debt threatens to destroy the one thing she has left of her family's legacy. Henry Garrison, the town’s ruthless and arrogant bank manager, has proposed a solution. Marry him and she can keep the deed to the property. But this presents a bigger problem, since she’d rather be boiled in lye.

More importantly, Isabelle is in love with someone else.
