When accidents, injuries, or challenges happen in a family or community, it typically causes the individuals involved to get bitter or to get better. Arlo Siegersma chose to allow challenges to forge an extraordinary destiny that inspires others to see difficulties in their life from a whole new perspective.
Not only did Arlo lose the sight in his left eye at the age of eight, but his father also lost the sight in his own left eye when he was nineteen years old. With the encouragement and support of his parents, Arlo graduated from Calvin College and practiced social work in many capacities throughout the US.
After retiring from his professional career, he spent time volunteering with The American Red Cross as a mental health evaluator and team leaders at disaster sites, including major involvement in relief work for Hurricane Katrina.
