Where Dragons Dance

When Amanda’s parents decide to move from North Carolina in October, 1962, Manda is anything but happy. She has to leave her best friends, her school, and their pretty home in the mountains. And to go to what? A new house, a new school, and something her dad calls “the space program.” He’s thrilled at the idea of working on rockets, but Manda is terrified by the idea of facing kids who don’t understand why she can’t talk like they do.

Then the entire world goes crazy, and everyone--
including Manda’s parents and teachers--is terrified. How is she supposed to be happy in a place where people are watching the skies and building bomb
shelters?
