The royal family of Sparta is changed forever. Prince Jules, second son of King Argalus is determined to be king. Princess Asimee escapes and hides her newborn child. Several years later, Aurum, son of a Spartan warrior, goes to the Agoge to start his Spartan warrior training. He makes a new friend, battles fearsome enemies and makes a lifelong friend. They find a dragon egg that they help to hatch. They help to return it to its family and rewarded with dragonkind loyalty.
