At its core, Lion Killer is a father and son story but all around its frame is the folly of mankind.
Just shy of 10 years old and starting work in his father's tire shop, Kofi hangs on to the last bit of his childhood by fantasizing a special bond with a lion that has been prowling around his African village.
His obsession alienates his best friend and leads to an incident prompting the residence of the up and coming town of Kangrobin to hire renowned hunter, Kent Kencaid.
Conflicts arise when Kofi inadvertently gets himself selected as Mr. Kencaid's assistant. Pushed by the wishes of his father, he struggles to determine where his loyalty lies.
Before he does, consequences amount and danger reaches heights that go beyond the company of wild animals.
Danger also lurks on two legs. Cantrell, is an American with a mysterious past and a chip on his shoulder. With something to prove, he makes it a personal goal to out-hunt the hunter. Then there is the Kombutanyu cult who believe the lion is an ancient spirit and will go to any length to exploit the bond they see between the beast and the boy.
Boxed in on all sides, Kofi is squeezed to a final desperate act, to once and for all solve the mess he has created.
Lion Killer is a story about human nature, about how all heroes are flawed, boys indubitably make foolish choices, and in the end no one comes out looking good.
