This is a gem of a story for anyone interested in the history of auto racing. Although they are largely forgotten today, in the late 1920's and early 1930's, board tracks, whose surface looked somewhat like a hardwood floor, were very popular. Some of these tracks were huge...up to 2 miles long. With their high banking, speeds could reach over 150mph (in 1930!). These tracks were very fast and very dangerous. The most successful of these tracks was probably Atlantic City Speedway.
