There Will Be No Winners

This is a story that takes place during the American Civil War. The novel is based upon a little-known historical fact, the crucial role that Russia played in helping to end the war and the Secretary of State, William Henry Seward’s ingenious diplomacy that pushed this gambit forward. This action, known then as “Seward’s Folly,” was much later applauded as the great acquisition of the Russian territory, which we now call Alaska. The purchase of Alaska is a well-studied fact in all our history books, but what is not so well known is the reason that inspired Secretary Seward to purchase it. That reason is the basis of this novel.
