“Now, what was it that struck the apostle? Was it merely that the Son of God had been given to be the sin-offering — to put sin away? or was it, in addition to that, that God had presented His righteousness to him? Far, far more than that: his soul was taken possession of by the Spirit of God, giving him a sight of the beauty of the Lord Jesus Christ, as the One who had emptied Himself and brought out this moral glory. The principle of man is to get as high as he can; that is the principle which Adam and Eve acted on. God's principle is exactly the contrary.”
