His friend, Tom Harrison had a boat. Although Tom considered Max’ plan a “hair-brain idea,” he would help.
With a cold, dense, winter fog hovering over San Francisco Bay, the two headed out in Tom’s boat. Two hundred yards off Alcatraz Island, Max slid his black-painted kayak off Tom’s boat into the frigid, swift, rip-tide, water. With a backpack of tools, his wits, and a little luck, he found his miserable new home in one of the 336 cell of Alcatraz Federal prison. His troubles had only begun.
