General Surgery Review

General Surgery Review consists of 40 chapters covering relevant topics for ABSITE. Information is presented in an outline-type format that includes supplementary diagrams, charts, tables, and illustrations. The study guide is divided into Basic Science Chapters (Statistics, Hemostasis, Immunology/Infection, Anesthesia, Pharmacology, Antibiotics, Fluids/Electrolytes/Nutrition, Oncology, and Wound Healing/Cytokines) followed by Clinical Science Chapters (Breast, Cardiothoracic, Gastrointestinal, Transplantation, Hernia, Head and Neck, Endocrine, Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, Vascular, Neurosurgery, Plastics/Skin, Pediatrics, Urology, and Obstetrics/Gynecology). Information from this review has been used for several years by general surgery residents at Mount Carmel Health System in preparation for ABSITE and the American Board of Surgery's Qualifying Exam. Fernando N. Aguila, MD, the ABSITE review guide’s primary author, received the Mayo Clinic Residency Program’s award for high ABSITE score in 2009 and his ABSITE scores for PGY1 through 5 average 95.4%.
