Harry Max Harrison was an American writer from the world of comics and science-fiction magazines of the 1950s. An amazingly prolific author, who gradually took on more serious themes, during his career he published over 50 novels and numerous short stories. During the 1950s and 1960s, he was the main writer of the Flash Gordon newspaper strip, but today he is much better known for his writing, particularly his humorous and satirical science fiction.
"The Velvet Glove" is an engaging novel about an innocent robot getting caught up in larger events he had nothing to do with. Through the robot-character author depicts the social issues: the attitudes toward robots clearly reflect the attitudes toward minorities of the time the book was published.
