Thomas Hobbes of Malmesbury (5 April 1588 – 4 December 1679) is an English philosopher, known because of his works on political philosophy. His book "Leviathan" was the basis for many theories of Western political philosophy. He is one of the founders of the whole political science and political philosophy. Apart from that direction, he contributed to the development of sciences such as geometry, history, theology, the physics of gases, ethics, and general philosophy.
This book was written in part as a response to the conflict between Charles I and Parliament. The work represents the first attempt of Hobbes to shift deductive methods of geometry on political philosophy. He also offers a definition of sovereignty, which became the center of all the later works of Hobbes. This is one of the first creations of the author, and so it might be interesting to all readers.
