Thomas Hobbes of Malmesbury (5 April 1588 – 4 December 1679) is an English philosopher, known because of his works on political philosophy. His book "Leviathan" was the basis for many theories of Western political philosophy. He is one of the founders of the whole political science and political philosophy. Apart from that direction, he contributed to the development of sciences such as geometry, history, theology, the physics of gases, ethics, and general philosophy. During his life he wrote many great works, which are popular to this day.
"De Cive" ("On the citizen") is a one of major philosophical works by Thomas Hobbs. This book first was published in Latin in the France (in Paris) in 1642, and translation of the work made its first appearance four years later. The whole work consists of three parts: Libertas (liberty), Imperium (dominion), and Religio (religion).
