Peter Christen Asbjørnsen was a writer and scholar, born in Norwegian Christiana (now Oslo). His name is closely connected with the name of Jørgen Moe, his close childhood friend, with whom Asbjørnsen collected Norwegian folktales. Their first work, a series of short-tales named Norske Folkeeventyr (Norwegian Folk Tales), was published 1842-1843 and immediately became widely popular at Europe. In 1854 Asbjørnsen, without assistance of Moe, published Huldre-Eventyr og Folkesagn, a collection of Norwegian legends and fairy tales.
The Sweetheart in the Wood, translated into English by G. W. Dasent, was first published in 1874 as a part of the second series of popular Norwegian tales, Tales from the Fjeld.
A classic example of Asbjørnsen's rather vigor and very charming style, the story captures the readers' attention at once. Do you want to be carried away by the exciting events of The Sweetheart in the Wood, a hidden treasure of Norwegian magic folk spirit? Then download the book and enjoy the reading!
