Charles Godfrey Leland (1824-1903) was an American writer working in the genres of humour and satire and collecting folklore. He studied American and European traditions and travelled a lot while working as a journalist. Leland became famous for his comic book 'Hans Breitman's Ballads'.

This a is an old Indian legend that was collected and retold by Charles Leland. It tells us of a traditional character of the Indian folklore - Glooskap, an omnipotent god.
