Wiliam H. Holtzclaw was an American author and writer, who had african roots. The main object of his works was the diminished position of coloured people and ethnic minorities. Holtzclaw was born in family of a former slave with no significant connection or resources, but he managed make a full of success career of a writer. His works are vivid pictures of life of Americans of non-Saxon origin, that was very harsh and full turmoil at that time.

In this short autobiographical piece o literary work William Holtzcclaw tells people about his experience as a teacher, about the hardships he and his pupils had to face, and of the spirit with which those hardships were overcome.
