How Jake Freed The Nightingale

A few weeks into the fall semester Jake transferred to Upton as a high school senior. His family home in Hyde Park was charred to the ground and his mother's body was found inside. Arson. An investigation of complicated layers ensued, and Jake with his father moved to a house across the street from Ruby. Ruby's mother had her own reasons for keeping Ruby in at night, but as gossip abounded her hold increased. As Ruby came to know Jake, these rumors evaporated into the background of the attractive and exemplary life she observed from across the street.
