On Being Real: A Quest for Personal and Religious Wholeness

How can I become real: an authentic, three-dimensional, integral and grounded human being instead of a bundle of fragments hiding behind a facade? How can I become free: an autonomous center of creativity, energy, and joy instead of a ridden and harried focus of pressures and burdens? How can I discover the meaning and purpose of life: a sense of pointedness and significance to replace the time-serving and empty routine? How can I come to the real knowledge and service of God: a sense of his presence, the support of his hand, the call of his will? How can I share in the light, the illumination of the transcendent, the holy, the divine?

As stated, these questions use different vocabularies and presuppositions; they seem to make different assumptions about ourselves, the world, and God. Some people will feel the cry behind one question as it echoes their own longing, but will be put off by another.
