The Brownie of the Lake

The Brownie of the Lake is a fairy tale, included in the Andrew Lang's Lilac Fairy Book. The story is set in medieval France. Jalm Riou is farmer. And he was the happiest man in miles around, for his farm was big and prospering, and his daughter, Barbaik, was the fairest maid known in those lands. And, of course, a lot of suitors wanted her hand. Amidst them all was one, whose affliction was immense yet not mutual. What else is needed for a romantic adventure to occur?
