Mem Kha's Love Story

It all started on a hot, sultry day in August when a letter arrived that turned my world upside down and inside out. "Our medical secretary is going on furlough for several months. Why not plan your trip so you could stay with us and cover her home leave? Be here mid-December. Love, Helen."
I had only mentioned that I was thinking of taking a trip! I had no intentions of disrupting my well-ordered life and trotting off to what seemed to me the end of the world; namely, Thailand. People don't just take off on a world trip at the drop of a hat--or the arrival of a letter.
But people do!
This is the story of my experience as a medical secretary on a mission hospital compound in Thailand--ten years of ups and downs and adjustments to a new life among the Thai people.
