Arthur Michell Ransome (1884–1967) was an English writer, journalist and an agent of MI5.
This short piece of prose was collected and retold by Arthur Ransome to become later a part of 'Old Peter's Russian Tales'. It represents a variation of a classical Russian fairy-tale. The story goes round a skull of a dead horse which becomes home for different animels. First a mouse comes, then a frog comes, and so on, and so on... but there is not enough room for everyone.
