Andrew Lang (1844 – 1912) was a Scots poet, novelist, literary critic, and contributor to the field of anthropology, best known as a collector of folk and fairy tales.
"The Bird of Truth" is a brief story by Andrew Lang about a fisherman who found two beautiful children in a crystal cradle, a boy and a girl. Without any doubt he brought them to his wife to raise as their own but as soon as the bables grew up, their older brothers became very cruel to them that forced them to ran away to the riverbank, where they fed birds with breadcrumbs. In gratitude, the birds taught them to speak their languages.
