Jack London is an iconic American writer, social activist, mostly known as the author of adventure fiction. Many of his literary works, including novels and short stories, based on his own life experience and they have inspired numerous authors' works, and adaptations for television and film.

Narrated by the first person, the story represents the depiction of prison life and impunity of prison officials, who try to break the spirit professor of by means of a torture device called "the jacket".
