Runaways

The story is set in Mississippi in 1935 during the Great Depression. A thirteen-year-old orphan and his 10-year-old tomboy friend run away by hopping a freight train after his father dies. They are befriended by a hobo, whom they come to respect as a father figure and who teaches them about riding the rails and about life. Their adventures take a tragic turn when they meet up with dangerous thieves.
