Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was a Scottish writer and physician, most noted for his fictional stories about the detective Sherlock Holmes, which are generally considered milestones in the field of crime fiction.
He is also known for writing the fictional adventures of a second character he invented, Professor Challenger, and for popularising the mystery of the Mary Celeste. The Adventure of the Golden Pince-Nez is one of the 56 Sherlock Holmes short stories written by British author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The story begins by portraying a scene on a wretched November night involving Inspector Stanley Hopkins, who comes to see Holmes and to tell him of a murder. The murder happened at Yoxley Old Place near Chatham, Kent. The most perplexing thing about the case to Hopkins is that it is apparently motiveless...
