Guy Newell Boothby was a prolific Australian novelist and writer, noted for sensational fiction in variety magazines around the end of the nineteenth century. He lived mainly in England. He is best known for such works as the Dr Nikola series, about an occultist criminal mastermind who is a Victorian forerunner to Fu Manchu.
The Childerbridge Mystery is a famous mysterious novel by Guy Newell Boothby. The story describes the life of a man, whose name is William Standerton. His wife has died a few months after the second child was born. He decides to take his children and return to England, buy a manor house and retire to comfortable country living.
