Large Red Interior, a play about Henri Matisse

A highly readable full-length play about Henri Matisse, his model/muse Lydia Delectorskaya, and Pablo Picasso. Two titans of modern art, one aging quickly and in his last decade, the other in his prime, and an extraordinary young woman, who intensifies the rivalry between these two great artists and ignites a contest of wills to see who will claim her as his own. The dramatic action takes place over a ten-year period, from 1944 until Matisse's death in 1954. The drama explores the mysteries of the artist-model relationship as well as the renewal of the creative process in an artist who believes he has said all he has to say and then discovers, through the inspiration and loving friendship of his young model, a new source of creative energy.
