John Cleland was an English writer who was the author of the most scandalous book of the era - 'Memoirs Of a Woman of Pleasure'. This is an erotic novel that was written while its author was in debtors' prison and first published in 1748. The book represents a series of letters from the main female heroine - Frances 'Fanny' Hill. In those letter Fanny tells the story of her life and justifies the choices she's made.
