Edgar Allan Poe (1809 – 1849) was an American author, poet, editor, and literary critic, considered part of the American Romantic Movement. Best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre. Poe was one of the earliest American practitioners of the short story, and is generally considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre.
"The Murders in the Rue Morgue" is a short story by Edgar Allan Poe which was recognized by all critics as the first modern detective story in the world. With another stories "The Mystery of Marie Roget" and "The Purloined Letter" the story represents the trilogy devoted to the French nobleman Auguste Dupin. As the first fictional detective, Poe's Dupin displays many traits which became literary conventions in subsequent fictional detectives, including Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot. Have a nice reading.
