The Mastermaid

George Webbe Dasent (1817-1896) was a folklorist and translator of legends and fairy-tales into English. Dasent was acquainted with Jacob Grimm who advised him to study mythology. Eventually George Dasent became a professor of English literature.

The Mastermind is a fairytale that was collected and retold by George Dasent. It tells us about a prince who was the youngest son of then king and who was bored with his royal day-to-day life. So one day he set off traveling around the world and seeking his fortune. Eventually he found a giant who offered him a place and job. His duties seemed easy at first sight but he met a princess there who told him that if he tried to do it in a usual way he would fail...
