An American writer Norbert Davis is best remembered today as the master of criminal and detective fiction. During the lifetime he published several novels, including "Holocaust House", "The Mouse in the Mountain", "Sally's in the Alley" and "Oh, Murderer Mine". All of these stories were widely popular in his time and still remain nowadays.
"Sally's In The Alley" is the detective novel, first published in 1943. Doan is a detective, who carries out an investigation with his enormous canine companion named Carstairs. The action takes place in 1943 and concerns a bunch of folks pretending to be various things trying to find a deposit of a precious ore of some sort. Our hero is pretending to be, though not very seriously, a Japanese agent trying to make contact with the rather whacked-out weirdo who knows where the deposit is, but who claims the Government cheated him out of it.
